InlandPolitics: Trump-Fox News Feud Highlights Need for Fox News Alternative

Fox News Donald Trump

Wednesday, January 27, 2016 – 09:00 p.m.

The ongoing dust-up between GOP front runner Donald Trump and Fox News is highlighting the schism that is developing between Fox News and its conservative viewers.

After Fox News put out a childish and unprofessional press release mocking Trump and his concerns about the impartiality of debate moderator Megyn Kelly, he announced he would boycott the Thursday’s debate. The network then spent the entirety of Tuesday night lampooning Trump and attempting to stake out the moral high ground.

One talking head after another said something to the effect that “we can’t allow a political candidate to dictate who will moderate a debate.”

Mind you, this is just weeks after all of these same talking heads fully encouraged and supported the call by Trump and other GOP candidates to demand that the Republican National Committee strip NBC of any future debates due to the blatant bias exhibited by the debate moderators at the CNBC debate.

Nearly 20 years ago, the Fox News channel was born and it filled a huge void in the market for those Americans skeptical and tired of the mainstream media bias in news reporting. For well over a decade now the station has crushed its opposition at CNN and MSNBC.

Millions feasted on the network’s offerings and drank from its well of balanced news reporting and the conservative analysis offered on its political shows. Like lost souls in a dry and inhospitable desert, we furiously lapped it up.

The network built trust with its viewers and these loyal viewers richly rewarded the company and its hosts.

Recently, a fissure seems to be developing between the network and a large segment of the Republican base. It really stems from the immigration debate and in a nutshell that is all you need to know about this election cycle.

It is all about illegal immigration. Though it is a bit more complex than that.

Somewhere along the lines Fox News began to move more and more towards shilling for the globalist open borders agenda. I don’t know when exactly — but it happened. And many of us are pretty pissed off about it.

Here is an example of a tweet sent out by Rupert Murdoch in March of 2015:

And it goes back even earlier to June of 2014.

Eric Cantor, the then Republican House Majority Leader, was crushed in his own primary by a no-name “tea party” Republican who he had outspent 40-1. It was an historic defeat. The reason — he supported amnesty for illegal aliens.

What does that have to do with Rupert Murdoch and Fox News?

Murdoch penned an op-ed piece for the Wall Street Journal where he shed tears over the corpse of Cantor’s pathetic career:

When I learned that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor had lost his Republican primary, my heart sank. Not simply because I think he is an intelligent and talented member of Congress, or because I worry about the future of the Republican Party.

The only concern Rupert has about the future of the Republican Party is whether or not the establishment will be around long enough to continue selling out the American worker as they whore themselves out to their corporate overlords.

He then launched into a defense of amnesty and allowing American businesses to import cheap foreign workers with H1B visas:

We need to give those individuals who are already here—after they have passed checks to ensure they are not dangerous criminals—a path to citizenship so they can pay their full taxes, be counted, and become more productive members of our community.

Next, we need to do away with the cap on H-1B visas, which is arbitrary and results in U.S. companies struggling to find the high-skill workers they need to continue growing.

It has become readily apparent to those viewers who are passionate about the issue of illegal immigration that the leadership at Fox News has taken steps to silence activists on the issue and tamp down the debate.

Conservative commentator Michelle Malkin has expressed these concerns as well, most recently in this article.

“I can tell you, my base is fed up with Fox,” conservative commentator Michelle Malkin told me. Malkin, who quit Fox as a contributor, actually goes after Murdoch for supporting immigration reform in her new book Sold Out (she calls him a “treacherous bedfellow”).

For over a decade now, Republicans have been screaming for border security and real immigration reform. You know – where we as a nation actually enforce our border and go after employers who hire illegal aliens? You know – actually making a concerted effort to fight on behalf and show allegiance to the working and middle class of this great nation.

Time and time again, we have been thwarted and betrayed by the GOP establishment on this issue.

And the main news outlet that we have long thought we could trust and showed loyalty to is now betraying us as well.

When Donald Trump says that he is the only reason we are talking about illegal immigration this presidential election cycle, he is right. And because he has spoken out on the subject so forcefully and not walked back his comments like your typical Republican sissy, he has been rewarded with a rabid and adoring following.

Similar to how conservatives lapped up Fox News when it first hit the airwaves, Republicans are lapping up the offerings of Donald Trump because to many he is the only credible voice on this issue.

Fox News is no longer that oasis in the desert. They have betrayed their viewers and violated the trust.

Conservatives are disenchanted with Fox News. They are tired of being lied to and sold out by the establishment of their own party.

Fox News has crushed their opposition on the left. And their market share is so large and so lucrative that it is time for another player to enter the mix and stake their claim to the hearts and minds of conservative Americans.

For too long Fox News has enjoyed and abused their monopolistic dominance of this demographic.

Perhaps, the folks over at Breitbart News or some other combination of conservative forces can put together a team of investors and launch a legitimate competitor to Fox News.

We need a network that will honor and respect its viewers. We need a network that will put the interests of working and middle class Americans first.
